Did you know that full-time students do not pay council tax?
Full-time students are not required to pay council tax and will not be included when counting the number of adults who live in a property. If all the residents are students the property will be exempt from council tax.
If you are a full-time student you will need to get an Exemption Certificate and give this to your local council tax office or your landlord. You can get this by emailing sid@beds.ac.uk (only from your student email account). Or by going in person to any Student Information desk point. If you have moved to a new address you will need proof like a tenancy agreement. ALWAYS keep a copy.
Please note that your status must be recorded on the University system as full-time, and that if you are being sanctioned by the University for debt you will not be able to get the certificate. Part-time students are not exempt and have to pay council tax. If you suspend your studies or change your status in any way you may not be exempt. Always check your status with the Council if you are in any doubt.
