Academic appeals

Not happy with your results after the Board of Examiners have made their decision? Have your results been affected by problems on the course? You may be able to appeal...read on.

How do I make an academic appeal?

You can only appeal a result once it has been ratified by the Board of Examiners. The procedure is a very formal one and your case must come under the grounds for appeal specified in the procedure. The full procedure can be found on the University website but we suggest you come and see someone to go through the details as it can get quite complicated. You must appeal within 3 weeks of getting your result so you have to act quickly.

If you are making an appeal but do not yet have evidence to back it up you can submit a letter stating an intention to appeal and submit the evidence afterwards.

NB You cannot make an appeal purely based on the fact that you think you should have got a better grade.

Staff in the Welfare and Advice Service can help you structure your appeal letter, give you guidance on what points you should include and can come with you if are invited to any meetings to support you and make sure you feel you are treated fairly.
