Bedford Campus Societies

BEDFORD CAMPUS SOCIETIES

There is an exciting range of societies on the Bedford campus. Please see the list below to read what societies we have available:

How to join a society:

If you have any questions or queries about societies on the Bedford Campus, or would like to join any of them, please contact Robert Searle (Student Activities Assistant) via email at robert.searle@beds.ac.uk, via telephone on 01234 793044, or simply come into the Students’ Union in Bedford to see him in person.

How to set up your own society:

If we do not have a society that you like, and you have a group of 10 or more other students who would also like to join that group, we could help you start a new society. Simply download the form here, fill it in, and then email it to us or drop it off in the Students’ Union.

Societies we currently have in Bedford are:

ACADEMIC

BUSINESS LAW  AND ACCOUNTING SOCIETY

The Business Society was set up for all business students and anyone else who wishes to join. It operates a range of activities, including social and sporting events. They provide a forum for exchanging ideas about current business issues and affairs.

DANCE SOCIETY

The Dance Society meets to discuss and practice dance, both socially and for academic purposes. Anybody who is interested in dancing is welcome to join.

RESEARCH STUDENTS SUPPORT GROUP (RSSG)

The RSSG is a support group for all other research students at the University of Bedfordshire. It arranges regular networking meetings and events for all research students belonging to the society, so if you are a research student, what are you waiting for?

CULTURAL

SPORT

CANOEING & KAYAKING SOCIETY

Our Canoeing & Kayaking team is for both men and women, and they train locally in the Bedford area. They also compete at various competitions in the academic year.

CHEERLEADING

The Cheerleading team has grown from strength to strength in recent years and has recently begun competing. They also offer support to Bedford’s sport teams when they are playing Home games, and cheer at other events such as Varsity. If you would like to keep fit whilst having a great deal of fun, come along and join us!

DODGEBALL

Dodgeball is one of our most recent sports on the Bedford campus. There are two men’s teams and one women’s team, and is a really enjoyable sport to play. They do not compete in BUCS but they do compete in other competitions and tournaments. Come and see the trophy cabinet in the Students’ Union to see how well they are doing. Come on... give it a go!

FUTSAL

We currently have both a men’s and women’s Futsal team. Futsal is our newest sport on the Bedford campus – and players of little or no experience are welcome. Futsal is similar to 5-a-side football, but is much more challenging and a great way to keep fit, so come along and give it a go. As the BUCS competition is structured through 3-4 one day tournaments, you can still play Futsal even if you play for another team, as the matches will not clash with your other commitments!

FOOTBALL (INTRA-MURAL)

For those who wish to play recreational football in an Intra-Mural league, this is the place to be! This is a massive league which had 13 full size men’s teams playing last year. You can join an existing team or set your own up with friends or housemates.

MARTIAL ARTS SOCIETY (MAS)

There are a number of Martial Arts available on the Bedford campus. In recent years, the Martial Arts Society has competed in a lot of competitions and enjoyed a number of successes. Both men and women are welcome to get involved, and students of any experience level are welcome.

TRAMPOLINING

There is a trampolining team for both men and women which may begin competing soon. All students are invited to come along and join. Training takes place on the Polhill campus.
