Become a Course Representative!

What is a course representative?

  • The voice of fellow students on a course.
  • Someone who represents students and importantly helps solve and raise course related issues.
  • Someone who talks to fellow students and make these views known in departmental meetings to ensure that the course is as good as it can be
  • Someone who attends the Student Union Council meetings to voice their opinion on issues that effect students. We need 2 per course per year to ensure the student voice is heard

How to become a course rep:

  • Put yourself forward as a rep for your course in your lectures in week 1 or 2
  • Ask your department/course tutors about elections of you're not sure
  • Attend course rep training from the Students’ Union
  • Utilise the BREO course rep site to speak to other reps and to keep in contact with the Students’ Union

 

What can a course rep do for you?:

  • Take your ideas, suggestions and improvements to department and Students’ Union meetings
  • Make sure that you get what you expect and pay for from your course
  • Keep the University accountable to its quality standards
  • Refer you on to people who can help you-whatever your problem


Benefits of being a course or faculty rep:

Skills - Public Speaking, negotiation, advocacy, decision making, organisation skills, team work, meeting and committee skills, problem solving, leadership, communication skills, presenting skills, time management, self management. All things to look great on your CV!

How do I contact my course rep?

Your course reps contact information should be displayed on your department notice boards and also on your BREO course areas. If you can’t find their details please email Rebecca.Heard@beds.ac.uk who’ll help you track them down!
